This week, students in Mrs. Brea Bell’s 6th grade math classes traded in their desks for the teacher’s chair! Each student selected a 6th grade math standard to teach to the class and was responsible for creating the entire lesson — including step-by-step explanations, examples, and even exit tickets for their classmates.
“The confidence, creativity, and leadership they presented was incredible. They have absolutely crushed this assignment and truly showed their deep understanding of these standards. I couldn’t be more proud of the way they stepped up and taught one another. 👏📚✨” — Mrs. Bell

🌊 BIG NEWS! 🌊
Join us in celebrating an incredible achievement by our very own 8th graders! 🏆
Our coastlines and barrier islands do so much for us—they protect our mainland from big storms, provide a home for wildlife, and are places where so many of us make favorite memories. But they are also incredibly fragile and facing major threats from climate change and rising sea levels.
Instead of just watching it happen, Jacob C, Sophia B, Katelyn S, and Cheyenne W decided to take action by participating in the global National Geographic Slingshot Challenge! This challenge tasks youth from all over the world with creating a powerful, one-minute video that shines a light on an environmental problem and proposes a real solution.
Out of countless entries worldwide, their impactful video stood out and earned them a National Geographic Slingshot Honorable Mention! 🌟
Huge congratulations to Jacob, Sophia, Katelyn, and Cheyenne, the creators of "Our Beloved Barrier Islands"! Thank you for using your collective voices to protect our environment and for showing everyone what 8th-grade leadership and teamwork look like. We are so incredibly proud of you all! 💚🌎

Our nation is forever indebted to the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who lost their lives while serving in the military. On Memorial Day, we pause to remember, honor, and reflect on their sacrifice. #Repost #MDE

Congratulations to BVMS 8th grade trombonist Brantley M. on earning a chair in the ASBDA Mississippi All-State Middle School Band. Brantley will perform with the band at PRCC later this month. This is his second time being selected and we are so proud! Go Vikings🧡💙

Our 6th-grade science classrooms recently transformed into mission control! 🔭🚀
Over the last few days, Ms. Lee’s, Ms. Bryant’s, and Ms. Atchison’s students dove deep into the fascinating world of space exploration for their latest presentation projects.
Students spent three dedicated class periods researching a historic space exploration tool of their choice from a list of 16 groundbreaking missions—including the Hubble Space Telescope, Apollo 11, Sputnik 1, and the Mars Curiosity Rover.
To ensure a true collaborative learning experience, no two groups in the same class shared the same topic. This meant every group became the ultimate "expert" on their specific tool! They designed fantastic presentations and took center stage to teach their peers all about how their tool has shaped our understanding of the universe.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work, research skills, and public speaking confidence our students displayed. Ask your young scientist tonight which space tool they mastered and what surprised them most about their research!

The Gulfport School District recently celebrated our annual Employee Pinning Ceremony! 💙
